The tool I’ve used to BEST help individuals, families and couples discover more about who they are and what makes them tick is the ENNEAGRAM.   I’ve gathered together the following links that may help you to easily use this tool.

Pamela M. Merten MS, LPC

By the way:   My Type 8 tells me to put this out on the web "as is"!  I've been messing with getting this format correct for quite a long time.  I'm tired!   You Type 1's may have a panic attack as you read this because it surely is not perfect!

1.
What is the Enneagram?    I have taken excerpts from Enneagram experts to help answer the question:    What IS the Enneagram?

2.  What does the Enneagram look like?

The names of each type vary – depending on authors.  The goal is to choose what 1 type best fits you (see “assessment” below)   Example, if you choose type 8 (that’s me!), you’re also connected with both types on either side of type 8 (type 7 & 9) , AND by following the straight lines connected to each type, you’ll discover the connection between 2 more types.  Therefore, type 8 is connected with types: 7,9,5,2.

 3.  The Enneagram Assessment:  Assess yourself!

      a.  9Types.com:                  NEW Enneagram Assessment -"no preference"-  included - FREE
      b.  Enneagram Institute:   The MOST accurate of all Enneagram on-line tests - $10
      c.  Enneagram Institute:   The Enneagram Assessment in Paragraph Form

4.  Having problems determining your type?

       a.  Type Misidentifications  Please sign up:  NO FEE!

       b.  Interpreting your Enneagram type

       c.  We were created with 3 centers:  feeling, thinking, gut/instinctual.   One of the 3 is  usually dominant unless we become acquainted with and practice using all 3.  The other 2 lay dormant.  Another way to help determine your type is to be aware of what center is most dominant:  Types 1,8,9:  gut/instinctual center;  Types 2, 3, 4:  feeling center;  Types 5,6,7:  thinking/intellectual center.  (This is not a link!)

5. Type Descriptions: After selecting your type, please click the following 3 links.  They’ll each give you plenty of information to help better understand your type and the 4 types that relate to yours.

6.  What do I need to do become healthy and then maintain it?   Please be sure to scroll further down this page to click on your type:  Personal Growth

7.  How can the Enneagram help me in business, with parenting, in relationships?  What interferes with growth?     Practical Applications

8.  We all have fears - some are known and some are not.  Each Enneagram type is driven by a basic fear.  Perhaps this will help you relate to and understand your fears and the fear of others. Basic Fears

9.    It IS possible for types to be compatible together! This link will show you how!

Type Compatibility

10.  Lists of healthy & unhealthy characteristics of each Enneagram Type.  Check those that apply to you.

11. Sometimes we need to admit that our unhealthy characteristics are so strong that we cannot manage them alone.  The 12 steps is a great tool to help us become free to live in healthy and productive lives:

12. Be aware of your relationships with yourself and others!  The types of relationships we're in can produce both negative & positive behaviors and thoughts:  Performance-Based Acceptance & Acceptance-Based Performance.

13.  I ride a motorcycle.  My bike follows my eyes.  If I look too long at a truck, I'll crash into it.  Check out how my diagram and the article that goes with it may help you understand how to transition from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one.

       a.  Bike follows my eyes.
       b.  Where's your focus?
